Its not my name in lights, but print will do.

Published this week in the On 7 paper is my first contribution to the 7 Things to do on Sunday in Winnipeg. Yes, I came up with seven...

7 Things to do:
Don't cook tonight...
Don't feel like cooking or spending money on lunch? Treat yourself to a free-of-charge potluck of pre-made foods. All you need is a membership card to Costco and you can hit the sample booths that are set up from 2-4 p.m. on Sundays. Not only will you taste test what is new and popular at Costco but you will quench the hunger pains too.
A bundle of fun
Bundle up with some family or friends and take a couple thermoses of hot chocolate to Assiniboine Park for the day. Spend the day making snow angels, battling each other in snowball fights, and taking some trips down the toboggan slide. Remember, a safe trip down the slide is a good trip down, so bring a helmet for those who tend to be accident-prone.
Lace up and dance
Spend the day dancing at the Forks. At 2 p.m., the plaza skating rink turns into an ice dance floor. Skate to the tune of your favourite song or request one from DJ's Hunnicutt & Co-op, who will be spinning music at the canopy.
Adventures with Agnes
Enjoy Strindberg's A Dream Play at the Gas Station Theatre starting at 2 p.m. Presented by the Black Hole Theatre Company, the play follows the daughter of gods, Agnes, in her search for answers to mankind's sorrow. Tickets for adults are $15 and $12 for students and seniors.
YOUR GAME WILL SHINE
"Glow for it" tonight with a group of friends. Put on your whitest shirt and head over to U-Puttz black light mini golf. Take a shot at the 18-hole course and indulge in their canteen cuisine. Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the first game costs $7.65.
Dinner and a movie
Invite your whole family over to catch up during dinner and a movie. Flip through that unused cookbook and experiment with something you've never cooked before. After dinner, sit down with the family and watch CBCHW's showing of Finding Neverland at 8 p.m.
Jump right in
Forget the nippiness of the wind-chill and snow by dressing down in your favourite swimsuit at the Pan-am Pool. Relax in the pool or experience the thrill of jumping from the highest diving board. The swimming pool is open from 12:30-5 p.m. and admission is between $4.40 and $5.50.

Dear Blog,

Today was such a great day.
To keep myself on the up and up, I will list all the ways that today was fabulous.
1) I was met with the beautiful face of Mia this morning, which is a way I could start EVERY day.
2) I got up so early so I could pick up the lovely Allison Marinelli before school. (This could be construed as a negative to some, but it really brightened my day)
3) Classes were cancelled to go to city hall for a J assignment. I love J assignments. AND all the classes were combined so I was able to sit with my fabulous old friends.
4) My panini from Kay's Deli was amazing. I had no idea that place was as close as it is. This was very good news.
5) After I went home sick, I got better! YAY.
6) It took no time at all to write my city council story (hopefully it is not autofail-worthy)
7) I tried and approve of a new shampoo that is rich in Moroccan oil.
8) Allison and I got tickets to see Yann Tiersen. I'm super stoked. He's coming on Feb. 27 to the West End Cultural Centre. If you don't know who he is...

S#!% My Cat Does

It's a new year and its time to try new things, I suppose.
So!

The new addition to my blog is called S#!% My Cat Does. This column will follow my cat, who goes by multiple names because I am incredibly indecisive/make nicknames for everyone and everything, through all the shenanigans he gets up to and escapes from unscathed, while ensuring his upmost survival.

To demonstrate, I have attached a photographic essay that I have named:
No Monkey Business By The Stairs
(As always, please don't expect good quality photos)

Students Commence the Sushi Tour of 2011

On January 3, Hayley Brigg, Terryn Shiells, and I commenced our 2011 Sushi Tour. We started the New Year off at Tokyo Sushi, located on Portage Avenue. We had ended 2010 with a fabulous lunch (insert David Driedger here) at BluFish on Bannatyne.
Tokyo Sushi did not disappoint. We ordered the Spicy Wha, an assortment of raw fish, avocado, and chili sauce. It is an inside out Maki roll with bits of tempura on the outside. Other rolls were the Crispy Crispy, one of my favourites (crab meat, boiled shrimp, yam, and cucumber), Philadelphia, which I maintain is the best in the city, BC roll, which is salmon tempura, cucumber, and teriyaki sauce, and the Eskimo roll.

The Eskimo was gigantic and I forgot to ask for it without fish eggs
(they      really      creep       me      out) and so I had to scrape them off each roll. I’ve been to Tokyo Sushi enough that they should be able to read my mind about those kinds of things by now.

I sincerely recommend this sushi restaurant to others and have many times in the past. It is my go-to sushi place and really one of the only places I have spent money on food voluntarily for a long time.
Tokyo Sushi combines great food, with (usually) great service, and a quiet, ethnic atmosphere. This place is great for dates and dinner with family/friends. It is NOT good for people watching/commenting as the tables are rather close together and you will be heard. Trust me.
This post has officially made me hungry. I will post our next addition to the 2011 Sushi Tour in the weeks following.
